Ode to The Man

My dad and I have a lot in common.

We share a dry, often dark, sense of humor.

Neither of us can see things that are right in front of our faces, whether it be the milk in the fridge or the thing we have set on fire in the kitchen.

Both of us use similar strings of profanity when driving, in physical pain or watching the Cubs.

It is entirely possible that in certain situations, we can be equally anal retentive and/or stubborn.  (Just so you know, my mom is nodding so emphatically right now that she has probably hurt herself.)

We both have a serious appreciation and affinity of breakfast foods.

And we also have a similar taste for offbeat gift-giving.

This is what he gave me for Christmas:

And this is what I gave him for his birthday:

Thank you for teaching me to like dark beer, strong coffee and dry red red wine.  Thank you for teaching me about timing belts, gun safety and baseball.  Thank you for killing bugs in the middle of the night, thank you for making me milkshakes and thank you for not hanging up on me when I insist on calling you from 800 miles away to yell at you about how I'm having a problem with my car.

I love you!  Happy Father's Day!

aww cute! I love that you listed your similarities, that' my dad's most favorite thing to do in the world-point out similarities between the parents and the kids.

Ooh, the Cubs! A perpetual heartbreak, but we always hope for next year.

I heart bacon, though don't limit it to breakfast. :)

Sounds like you + your dad = good people.

Please tell your Dad I love him too. He sounds like a real winner. How can he not be when he has the sense of style to buy you a lamp like that.

I love it.
You and your dad both sound like awesome people. And don't even get me started on the gift giving. I have always wanted for someone to give me one of those cat clocks!

I love that lamp and I would like one for myself.

Where was your dad when I started beer drinking? I can't tolerate dark beer. It's too soy saucy.

aww love your gifts- that's so much more fun than the typical dad gifts. and i always did the same thing when i was away at college...it was either "i don't feel good/i am bleeding from an open wound & refuse stitches, come get me", or "my car won't start, what do i do". thank goodness for dads!

That is a tribute he can be proud of!

The Cubs do tend to do that to people. But, milkshakes make it better. Sort of.

Yay for dads! I'm just like mine too. It makes my husband laugh and also shake his head. Good times.

I love that you call your dad from 800 miles away to yell about your car. He must be a real gem to actually listen to you go crazy!

Are you from Chicago? Or just another crazy Cubs fan?

I love this - makes me feel so great about the bond I have with my dad too! We are cut from the same cloth completely always to the disappointment of my mom. I think she wanted a mini me :)

Well, as long as you're on the same page, you know the gifts will always be appreciated...no matter how quirky they might be. ;)

And I love this blog post. Well done, madam.

You're lucky to have him, and I can feel the love from here.

Very beautiful.

Makes me think of all I've lost, my father died when I was in the first grade. I always knew I missed a lot.

Great Father's day post here! Love reading your antics. You should write a book. Really. I mean it. You're funny and smart. The lamp and the clock I would keep on the low-down until you close the deal with a publisher however. I'm just sayin. Keri
