I'm getting Cantonese on your asses

I'm going to Hong Kong, baby!

One of the loves of my life, Sonya Rae, lives and works in Kowloon, HK and I'm going to get all up in her fortune cookie over Spring Break.

This brilliant, peach of a woman has been bugging me to visit her for many months.  And every time, I gave her the same answer.

"No money.  No flighty."

Well, this time around, she wasn't having it.

She said, "You get your butt over here now so I can pet your head."

I lovingly replied, "*Monkey mittens, I cannot afford it," to which she came back with, "I'll find you a cheap flight and pay for half of it."

I said, "Uhhh... okay."

I lived with her for three months in China and never once tried to kill her, making it one of my most successful relationships to date.

She is one of the sweetest, most generous, loving people I've ever known and chances are that I will jump into her arms when I see her and we will hold each other for a while, making all the locals uncomfortable.  I know this because it's what we did the last time we met in an airport.

She is the Funshine Bear to my Bedtime Bear.

I mean, when am I going to have this chance again?  And when will I have this good of a reason to go?  Probably never.

Sonya, my love, I will see you in 3 weeks!

So... which Care Bear would you be?

*This is really how we talk to each other, by the way.

I can always count on your blog to drag up some long-forgotten icon of my past and make me all nostalgic to watch TV from my beanbag chair and wear Mork and Mindy suspenders. I will have to re-aquaint myself with the Care Bare line-up to answer that question. But I can and shall give you the Care Bear stare. Ready?

Was it good for you?

This little trip of yours will be AWESOME and I can't wait to hear about it. We have just decided to visit our friends in Hawaii. They are stationed there for 4 years and well...time is slipping away and when will we EVER be able to do HI that cheaply again?? Kudos to you for recognizing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. And kudos to your friend for letting your squat at her apartment.

The funny thing is my daughter recently discovered Carebears - definitely brings back memories!

Oh -and I will definitely be using "monkey mittens" as a term of endearment from now on!

Wow I just threw up a little bit listening to you talk like that... ;)

Have fun and don't do anything I wouldn't do... which really isn't a whole lot so...

Fuuuuuuunnnn! So glad you made it work. I visited a friend of mine while she was studying in Spain years ago and it was so worth it, even though I couldn't really afford it.

I hate you (just a little) in advance for how awesome a trip you're going to have.

And I hope there are many "I am an awkward foreigner and have no idea what's going on!" stories that come out of it.

Well look at you and your big international spring break! I am full on jealous. Hong Kong is one of those places that I have always really wanted to go. I will have to live vicariously through all the amazing photos you are going to post on here. Right?

How exciting!! And how can you resist the 'I'll pay for half' deal? You can't. That's a seriously good spring break plan. I've never been over that way, so I'll enjoy hearing all about it.

Ahhhh! I'm so excited for you! Take lots of pictures and share!

I'm actually one of the Care Bear cousins. Remember Proud Heart Cat? That's me...now, if you keep referencing the Care Bears so affectionately I'll have to ask you to marry me (which my boyfriend probably will not approve of- or maybe he'll like it. But either way, things won't work out). Yay for Hong Kong!

My bear is a newer Care Bear named "Daydream Bear." Real life occasionally peeks into MJ-Ville, but usually I'm perfectly happy putting up with my own persistent imagination and daydreams. Thank goodness each of my family members is also a Daydream Bear. We live in a fanciful den, but we prefer dried mangoes to honey. Have fun in Hong Kong! One day I'll take my cubs there for some dim dum.
