Turns out, I'm a bigger yuppie than I thought.
I grew up in a city with almost every chain you could ever need.
So, when I moved to Boone, I found the lack of a Starbucks very charming and refreshing.
Well, I'm over it now.
I'm back in Indiana and couldn't be more delighted with all of the choices.
And that's what it's all about.
I used to have the option of Chipotle, Moes or Qdoba.
That's right. Options!
Now, I don't even get one.
I grew up knowing that if I couldn't find a book or CD at Borders, I could pop over to Barnes & Noble.
And God forbid, if I went to Target and left empty handed (mind you, this has NEVER happened), I could also visit one of our 4 Walmarts as a last resort. Or, you know, K-mart if I got really desperate.
In fact, I have to be really honest.
When I drove in to town yesterday, I saw one of our many Starbucks at the corner of a busy intersection.
I almost wept with joy.
I don't even go there that often when it is available to me, but that's just it.
It is available to me.
Thank God I'm not "upwardly mobile" or I'd be really screwed.

Everyone has a chain (or chains) they can't live without.
Fess up and spit it out. You're in good company.

God, this is going to make me sound like I'm 6 years old, but I can't live without McDonalds...yep, I said it...
I would die if I didn't have access to a Target. For real. I love it. And I've never left empty handed either.
Sadly, my heart and wallet reside in our Super Wal-Mart. It's our families official Mall.
My best, Lynn
Target= crack. love it.
I confess.
Starbucks. Gotta have it... this deploymnt has been torture.
It's not that we don't have Starbucks in Canada, it's that everyone here is obsessed with Tim Horton's. And I like Timmy's just fine, but it's not the same. Sure, Starbucks is basically criminally expensive, but the seasonal hot chocolates! They make it seem like the holidays.
I miss living in DC where I had the choice of both! I live in chain land now and it's oh so sad!
mine is ALDI's it makes super wal mart look like a high-end specialty shop. it is clean, the quality of most items is exceptional, and i love it.
It's Starbucks for me. I try to like the independent coffee shops here (and I do like a couple), but it's nice to know where I can go and *always* enjoy my soy mocha.
Oh... and I need to confess. I'm still 14 on the inside and miss Red Robin burgers like crazy. We don't have those or even a Denny's. :-(
I love McDonald's breakfast. I couldn't live without that or Starbucks. But I live somewhere where there are so many chains, it's almost funny. :) YAY for evil demon chain stores!
And that's exactly why I hate living in a small town!
I loved the suburbs with the chains everywhere.
You're so brave. I envy your ability to just come out and say it. Nice to know I'm not the only one who just can't leave Target empty handed. That place must use some serious marketing psychology.
:) I gave you an award today. You are cool.
I couldn't go a week without a trip to Barnes & Noble, usually fortified by a little Starbucks...
I think certain places make me want certain things:
Texas - tex-mex
Northwest - any indi coffee place
Midwest - coney dogs
I guess if I'd have to pick a national, I'd go for ice-cream Ben&Jerry's
Chipotle. Have even been to the original on Evans in Denver. I can't eat it every day, but, damn, when I want corn salsa, I want Chipotle's corn salsa!
Target. Starbucks. Barnes & Noble. Ross. You got 'em all, I think. Now if the above stores would only combine into a freakishly large one-stop shopping venue, I'd be doomed to complete yuppiness and loving every minute of it. What could they call it? Tarbucks & Nobleross?
I love it. Because this is why David always wants to go out to chain restaurants when he comes home!
As for me...definitely the Target AND the Walmart.
Welcome to Moe's!!! (That's our favorite in my Trenches)
Target...that's the only constant. Shhhh.
