Share something juicy.

In the beginning, God created Starburst.

And in His infinite wisdom, he created 4 flavors: orange, lemon, cherry and strawberry. He knew, of course, that we would roll our eyes and inwardly sigh every time we pulled up the former and then breathe a sigh of relief and outwardly rejoice should we come across the latter. The cherry and strawberry exist to reward whilst the lemon and orange exist to humble.

Even in this sugary treat, the balance of yin and yang, dark and light, good and evil is present...

...well, toss that mess out the window kids, because the good times are rolling in!
No need to pinch yourself because you are wide awake. That's right, you can now get a box of strawberry, cherry, watermelon and fruit punch. Never again will you grimace at your candy purchase, knowing you must suffer though the citrus flavored pieces that ruin dental work every day.

Yes, you really can have it all!

Now, I know there are a few people in the world that actively seek and enjoy the lemons and oranges. While it's difficult to believe you exist and we often make fun of you, we secretly give thanks for your candy quirk. You make the unwanted flavors go away, and it's not even a sacrifice on your part. Amazing.

Honestly, it's so simple. How did it take so long for one person to put 2 and 2 together?

I like to think that a 5th grade class at George Washington Elementary in Iowa City, Iowa was learning about the power of being a consumer. One student, let's call him Grover (dad was a history buff and mom liked Sesame Street), decided he'd had enough.

Grover wrote a short letter to Mars, Inc. c/o Starburst. In this letter, Grover respectfully shared his opinions and suggestions. I like to think it went a little something like this:

Dear Starburst-makers,

Make more reds and pinks. Orange and yellow suck.

Sincerely,

Grover Jones

Well said, Grover. Well said.
